Graphic Identity Program

Identity Elements

Secondary Marks

Academic departments and other units whose roles and activities are critical to the overall mission and success of the University should use the academic or tagline version of the signature as their primary graphic representation. Secondary graphic marks for units are not allowed. This policy applies to the majority of the institution's units, departments, centers, etc.

However, there are selected instances when use of a secondary mark is appropriate. Units must meet three primary criteria to receive approval to use a secondary mark:

Units approved to use a secondary mark must also use the authorized academic or tagline version of the University signature with their communication materials. The academic or tagline signature should receive more prominence than the approved secondary mark.

Examples of approved secondary marks are those created for Northwest Public Radio and Television and the Cancer Prevention & Research Center.

Event-Specific Marks

Secondary marks may be created to promote a specific event, such as an annual lecture or a special anniversary. Secondary marks must be used in conjunction with the authorized academic or tagline version of the University signature. Contact the Office of Marketing Communications for more details.
